A Couple Drive For Hours To Adopt A Senior Dog Being Given Away On Facebook

It’s tough being a stray dog in a shelter, waiting to get adopted. That hardship is only exacerbated by age. Older dogs have a much harder time getting adopted from shelters than younger dogs do.

Many people only want young dogs or puppies, which is quite disappointing because senior dogs have a lot of love to give.

The Dodo reported that a senior beagle was being given away for free on Facebook. This poor dog desperately needed a new home.

Maple was in a poor state when she was listed as free on Facebook. Taylor and her boyfriend rushed to adopt her anyway, even though she smelled bad, had overgrown nails, and looked defeated.

After reading the post that stated Maple needed to be gone by the weekend, Taylor and her boyfriend speedily drove the three hours to go retrieve her.

From the moment Taylor met Maple, it was clear that the senior dog had not led an easy life. Nevertheless, Maple seemed grateful to have been rescued.

After a few days of sleep in her new home, Maple slowly started to emerge and get used to her surroundings. A major contributor to this transition was Cooper, Taylor’s other rescue dog. When they met, the two dogs immediately got along. With Cooper’s help, the formerly shy senior adjusted well to her brand-new life full of love.

“When we got her, she was really closed off and shy,” Taylor told The Dodo. “Now she wants to explore everything.”

Maple’s life is much different than it was before, as she now spends her days living her best life with her new best friend. She celebrated her one-year “Gotcha” day anniversary surrounded by the people and pets who love her most!

The power of love can totally transform someone’s life, even an animal’s. It’s amazing how much difference a little love can make.
