Heartbreaking Story Of A Dog Left At the Shelter To Die Because His Family Is Having Another Baby

Although Stormy loves kids and gets along with other animals, his family surrendered him to a Brooklyn shelter when they had their fifth child.

“As you can see from his expression, he is really struggling to be away from home and doesn’t know what happened to his family. Even though he’s always been gentle and good with kids around the house, his mom thought it would be best if he didn’t stay with them when they had their new baby,” Julie Carer wrote on Facebook.

“He loves playing with and being affectionate toward both big and small dogs. He is also gentle around cats. Freshy—now named Stormy—even enjoys being hugged! It’s too heartbreaking to think his life could end so soon,” she continued.

When he arrived at the shelter, Stormy’s (previously named Freshy) odds of getting adopted weren’t good. In fact, they were nearly impossible – he was scheduled to be euthanized within a few hours. Fortunately, Eleventh Hour Rescue saw the post from a volunteer describing what it was like meeting him and stepped in just in time.

“I usually have to wash my hands after walking a dog, but Freshy was different. I had to rinse up to my whole arm! Freshy is so loving that he practically gave my arms a bath. And when he wasn’t busy licking me, he would lean into my legs begging for back scratches.”

It’s impossible not to fall in love with Freshy at first sight! He’s even caught the attention of staff members: upon seeing Freshy, they came to the yard to visit and express their admiration. Staff isn’t the only ones who think so highly of him- Yard visitors also constantly comment on his size and happiness.

According to Freshy’s previous owners, he is a friendly dog who gets along well with both large and small dogs, as well as cats. He is also good with kids of all ages.

“If you’re looking for a dog that loves hugs, walks, and games of fetch or tug-of-war, Freshy is the canine friend for you! The only thing this pup is missing is a loving home – could it be with you?”

Alana Guerrini, a volunteer and foster carer for Eleventh Hour Rescue, was heartbroken when she saw his profile. He had spent all of his life with a family that included four children, two other dogs (one small and one big), and a cat. But then the woman in the family became pregnant with her fifth baby and decided that he was too much.

Stormy was special to her, and she raced against time to save his life–which she did with only minutes left.

“He was supposed to be put down at 5 o’clock, and we got word that we could take him at 4:58 or 4:59,” Guerrini said. “So he’s officially ours and off of death row.”

The moment Stormy stepped into the car, it was clear he was a kind and loving dog. He climbed into her son’s lap and wagged his tail continuously.

While watching Stormy play with her son, Guerrini had a hard time believing that his family gave him up. She called him “an angel.”

Now that he’s safe, Guerrini plans on finding him the perfect family. “I have become attached to him and want what is best for him, so I need to find the best home out there.”
