As the years pass, have you observed that you’ve grown closer to your dog? Maybe we start close to them and feel as if we’re two peas in a pod. But sooner than expected, that connection deepens even more—and sometimes it looks peculiar.
Russell Jones knows better than anyone how difficult it can be to travel with a pet. He has a lurcher named Billy whom he loves, and the two are inseparable. Jones continued to take Billy for walks, even after he fell and broke his ankle.
On their leisurely walk, Jones noticed that Billy was limping and barely able to put any weight on his left leg.

Jones became increasingly worried as he noticed his dog’s health rapidly deteriorating, so he took the dog to see a veterinarian.
A Facebook video was posted that showed Jones out for a walk with his little lurcher, Billy.
Billy walks with his left paw lifted from the ground, looking pained. He can barely walk and is limping terribly.

By the time they visited the veterinarian, they had already spent $400 on two visits and x-rays. The painkillers didn’t help either, so the vet said there was nothing more that could be done.
According to the People’s Pet Awards, when Jones brought Billy home and saw him limping, he couldn’t stop thinking about whether his dog was suffering. To see if his wife could get Billy to play without any sign of a limp, Jones ran an experiment. He had her take Billy out into the garden where they played together for a while.
Jones then realized that Billy wasn’t hurt, he was being compassionate. He knew his owner was in a cast and decided to limp too.

About a month later, something interesting happened–it all came back around. Jones posted another video of the two of them walking on the sidewalk together, but this time Billy was limping for real and Jones was faking it.
Billy sadly passed away from cancer a year later. When Jones went on Facebook to let everyone know, he was met with an outpouring of love and support.
What is truly amazing, however, is that despite being with us for such a short time, Billy brought an abundance of love and laughter into the lives of so many people. We will miss you dearly, Billy.
