At six months old, Barbie found herself at the Animal Care Center (ACC) in Brooklyn, New York. She was surrendered by her previous owners who struggled to manage two lively puppies. After their landlord complained about the noise, Barbie ended up in the shelter, puzzled and hurt.
From the moment she arrived at the ACC, Barbie’s vivacious personality shone through. She’s a friendly little bundle of joy who loves to play. She would stick her paws through her crate’s bars to grab anyone’s attention who passed by. Her tail would wag enthusiastically, and her entire body would shake with excitement as she tried to engage with every human and dog she saw.
Manisha Shah, a volunteer at the shelter, recognized Barbie’s unique charm from the start. “Barbie is an absolute delight,” she shared with The Dodo. “Whenever we passed by her kennel, we couldn’t resist saying hi and giving her treats. She would wiggle around, seeking attention and yearning to be let out. When it was finally her turn, she’d stick her tiny paws through the food slot. She’s simply irresistible!”
Such was Barbie’s appeal that ACC decided to feature her in a special post on the Boroughbred in Brooklyn Instagram page. The post captured Barbie’s endearing antics, from her dramatic flopping down to her playful stretching of paws through the kennel bars, inviting everyone to a game of pattycake.
The video of Barbie engaging with passersby quickly gained popularity on the shelter’s social media pages. By the next morning, adopters were lining up to take Barbie home.
“Barbie was adopted in no time!” exclaimed Manisa. “One of our followers saw our post and rushed to the shelter to adopt her!”
Barbie’s new family wasted no time in signing the adoption papers. Now, Barbie is living a dream life with a family that truly appreciates her. They’ve even created an Instagram account just for her, allowing Barbie’s fans to follow her journey filled with love and attention.
