The power of siblings is boundless, even among animals. Take Star and Denver – two puppies who demonstrate the special bond between brothers.
Star and Denver were two of eight puppies born into a family that was suddenly abandoned in rural Louisiana. Fortunately, their mother and siblings were rescued by the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California – but it quickly became apparent something wasn’t quite right with Star.
As the other puppies pranced about, exploring their new environment, Star stayed back and displayed signs of having particular needs. The animal center staff promptly discovered that this 3-month-old terrier mix was not only deaf but also partially sightless.

Incredibly, the staff discovered that Star had acquired reliable aid from her brother Denver. He often assisted her with orienting herself to her environment and they were astonished by this development.
As Dora Dahlke, manager of Adoption Services at Helen Woodward proclaimed in a recent press release to PEOPLE magazine: “This is truly amazing. Animals are constantly teaching us something new.”

Star and Denver are completely devoted to one another. Whenever staff members attempt to separate them, Denver is always speedy in running back towards Star as a way of ensuring her that he will stay by her side. It’s their extraordinary connection that has caused the siblings to be adopted together – they simply can’t be apart from each other!
Those who are fortunate enough to provide a home for Denver and her special needs puppy companion will receive training from a local expert, ensuring that they’ll be well-prepared as their family grows. And of course, no matter where life takes them next, Denver will always have someone by her side.

Dahlke noted that the two siblings serve as an example of how powerful sibling love and friendship can be, displaying what we are capable of when supported by those who care for us.
