Baby, the one-year-old pittie found aimlessly wandering around Northeastern Pennsylvania had no idea what was happening when she arrived at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. Everything felt so foreign to her – from the people to the environs – and it made her quite uncomfortable.
Longing for her previous home, she sought security and solace. That’s when P.J. Regan, the shelter’s medical manager, captured a photograph—preserving that moment in time forevermore.
Ashley Wolo, the executive director at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, expressed to The Dodo that she could sense the dog’s anxiety in her unfamiliar surroundings. She continued by saying: “The photo of her peering out of the door window almost as though she was expecting her former owner to reappear – it broke my heart.”
At the shelter, Baby was provided with much-needed medical attention such as vetting and deworming treatments for fleas and ticks. Even after receiving this care, she still felt overwhelmed by her kennel environment which caused her to become emotionally shut down.
According to Wolo, the kennel area was quite noisy with incessant barking from all of the other dogs, creating a stressful atmosphere. However, when she ventured out into our outdoor play area – that’s when we saw her true personality come alive! She happily ran around and played as any dog should; it was truly beautiful to witness.
The personnel at the shelter contacted Pregnant Dog Rescue to check whether they had enough room for Baby. Her friendly behavior with other canines was so impressive that the rescue agreed to take her on, but it wasn’t long until she found a new home for good.
After only a few days, Baby’s new family fell in love with her and decided to adopt her along with another pup from the rescue. Now they are besotted!
When Baby came home with her adopters, it was as if she’d lived there for years! She has impeccable table manners and walks like a dream on a leash. Her adopters wrote in an email: “She’s been a perfect pup since day one!”
When I’m working from home, Babysits patiently at my feet as if she’s aware of the task before me. She is utterly devoted and sincerely sweet–there could not be a better pup!
Baby has completely adapted to her new home and now, the only time she gazes out a window with anticipation is when her beloved family returns with an extra special treat for her.
