After 633 Days of Waiting, Shelter’s Longest Resident Dog is Finally Adopted

Although all shelter dogs hope to one day find a loving family, for some, the wait is much longer than for others. Certain pooches spend months or even years without being adopted and placed in their forever homes.

After spending two long years in a shelter, Acorn’s wish of having a home finally came true.

For 633 days, Acorn was under the tender care of the Outer Banks SPCA in North Carolina – breaking all records to become their longest-standing resident. As noted on their Facebook page, he finally found his forever home!

It would have been easy to disregard Acorn’s future after such a long time in the shelter, but instead, the staff held out hope that this adorable pup’s luck was about to turn.

After a long wait, the Outer Banks SPCA joyfully announced on March 18 that Acorn had found them forever home!

After years of anticipation, they expressed their elation, writing “We have been eagerly awaiting this moment!”

Saying goodbye to a shelter pup who has been around for some time is always an emotional experience; yet, it’s mixed with joy knowing he/she goes off to their forever home. In Acorn’s case, the volunteer Brad from our staff had grown so attached over the last few years that his departure was especially difficult.

After such a long wait, the day of joy finally came to them; their wish was granted and someone took their time with this pup and gave him his dream home. “We had faith that eventually he would find the perfect family for him and our expectations were fulfilled!”
