Jazzy was brought to Orange County Animal Services in early December by their officers. She had difficulty walking due to advanced arthritis but remained gentle and affectionate despite her considerable age.

Though the staff had their doubts about the elderly dog’s prospects of finding a home due to her medical problems, they were amazed when they scanned her for a microchip.

Our staff worked diligently to locate the data and were shocked when it led us to a family in Texas. After we gave them a call, they received unbelievable news; Jazzy was 12 years old now – she had run away from her home five years ago out of fear caused by fireworks noises! Despite searching for seven long years without any success, the family always kept their faith alive that one day they would find Jazzy.

The shelter provided all the information to Jazzy’s family and they did not hesitate. Kerry, her owner, quickly booked a flight from Texas to Florida and today they were reunited! Despite Jazzy’s health issues and current condition, there was no doubt that she would be back home with her beloved family soon.

Kerry was brought to tears when he heard his beloved Jazzy’s voice, and the joy in her eyes was unmistakable. He had countless fond memories of their time together that he shared with everyone there. Abundant love poured out from Jazzy as she showered Kerry with kisses and hugged him close – it seemed like all those years apart hadn’t touched either of them at all! With a heart now made complete again, they both rejoiced in this beautiful reunion.

The inspiring Christmas miracle has moved the spirits of both canine lovers and the employees at the shelter. In a statement, they said: “It’s no secret that our staff and volunteers must confront sorrow on a daily basis. However, once in a while, we get to see something this touching which makes it all worthwhile.”
