JOHN HWANG

Being abandoned at an animal shelter is a scary experience for any dog, but it was especially traumatizing for Muneca. Not only did she lose her home and family, but she is also blind. At 18 years old, poor Muneca didn’t know what would become of her.

When Baldwin Park Animal Care Center in Los Angeles met Elaine Seamans, they knew she was special. She went to visit a dog named Muneca who had been neglected and abused her whole life.

John Hwang saw and photographed Seamans and Muneca while on his way to another shoot. The photo he took of them went viral online, most likely because it showed the deep bond between the two women; Seamans held Muneca close in her arms with Muneca clinging tightly onto her.

The individuals who took the photo wanted to ensure that anyone who saw it would feel a connection to Muneca and Seamans, as well as the same emotions. And it worked. A rescue group called the Frosted Faces Foundation saw the touching photo and decided they needed to get her out of there immediately.

Now life is finally starting to look good for Muneca. She was recently adopted into a loving home and got to enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures – like a warm bubble bath and chomping on delicious dog treats at the beach.

Whenever she has the chance, Gann loves to hold Muneca close. She even made a sling for her so she can keep Muneca with her while doing things around the house.

Muneca was an unwanted dog, but we took her in and now she is living out the rest of her days happy, as every dog deserves.
