Every year, countless children ask for pets as presents, usually a dog or a cat. Despite promises to care for the new pet, many young kids cannot handle such a responsibility. Adults must consider if they have the time and resources to properly care for a pet before getting one.
One December night in 2017, a janitor was working at a school when he heard a knock on the main entrance door. He found it odd for someone to visit so late but went to check it out. As he got closer, he saw a young boy’s silhouette, but by the time he unlocked the door, the boy had disappeared.
In place of the boy, there was a cardboard box with a note. Inside the box was a small black puppy. The note said:
“Sorry it didn’t have a home and was so cold, so we’re going to give it to you. Please don’t let it go, find it a nice home – thank you.”
The janitor knew he had to do something for the puppy. He called a teacher at the school who was a dog lover.
The teacher agreed to take the puppy home and named her “Snowflake.” Though she couldn’t keep Snowflake permanently, she was determined to find her a loving home. She contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, a local animal shelter, for help.
The shelter picked up Snowflake, ensuring she received a thorough checkup and vaccinations from a vet. After that, they began the process of finding her a forever home.
On December 21, 2017, Snowflake found her new family just in time for Christmas. Both the family and Snowflake adore each other.
The little boy who left Snowflake at the school likely saved her life. If not for him, she might have died alone in the cold. Thanks to his actions, Snowflake now has a loving home where she receives all the love and care she deserves.
