Imagine being old and suddenly left in an unfamiliar place. That’s exactly what happened to Maddison, a 17-year-old dog. With no family around and no familiar surroundings, she was utterly confused.

The Lancaster shelter received Maddison along with a note explaining her situation. Despite reaching her doggie ‘golden years,’ they were far from perfect for her. The note revealed that she had been with her family for over five years, but in reality, it was probably her entire life.

The note mentioned that Maddison was good on a leash, but her potty training was still a work in progress. It’s hard to believe that a 17-year-old dog wasn’t fully potty trained yet. Meanwhile, this loving dog found herself in a cell, surrounded by unfamiliar dogs.

It must have been overwhelming for a senior dog like Maddison to be abandoned without knowing what she did wrong. Why couldn’t her family cherish her final years with them?

The note also informed shelter workers that Maddison was good with children and other pets. However, since she no longer showed interest in playing with kids or going outside, her family decided to leave her at the shelter. It’s truly heartbreaking for an animal that devoted the best years of her life to her family.

Thankfully, Maddison’s story doesn’t end on a sad note. After her video went viral, a kind person heard about her plight. Within days, Maddison found love, belly rubs, and a comfortable bed with someone who will stay by her side throughout her golden years.

Now, Maddison can finally relax and enjoy her retirement.
