Catherine Morris and Spike were adopted nine years ago by their family. They thought he would be a downstairs dog. But Spike, an English springer spaniel had a different view.
Morris said that the first night Morris had him, he closed the stairgate and went to bed. “He whined for several minutes before jumping over that gate in the darkness and running straight up onto his bed!” He slept there from that point on.
Spike was a full-fledged energy person during the day. Spike loved to play tennis and run for hours. The pup loved to climb the stairs to share his bed at night with his family. Morris stated that Morris loves to snuggle up with his family and pushes under the covers to reach as close as he can.

Spike is now 14 years old and has started to slow down a lot. Morris and her parents feared Spike would pass away after he suffered two strokes. But Spike was not ready to go.
Spike was unable to stand for several days following his second stroke. Morris and her parents had to carry him around the house with them. The senior dog, however, was determined to improve his walking skills and continued to learn.
Spike isn’t strong enough yet to be able to go up and down stairs reliably, so his family had the task of obstructing his favorite spot — his bedroom.

Spike would not let his weak legs stop him from climbing the stairs to snuggle up with his family. So they put up a stair gate and created a plan for Spike to be happy.
Spike’s family has begun to share the pull-out couch with Spike every night so that Spike doesn’t try to jump over the gate. Morris stated that Spike was on a new schedule when he was away at university. Therefore, Morris and his parents alternate nights with Spike. “Since my return home, I’ve been in the rotation so we get more sleep all around.

Spike’s father takes special care to ensure that his beloved dog is at rest every night.
Morris stated, “They are absolutely inseparable.” “My dad calls him “old bean” and they are always talking.”
She added that Spike’s dad would bring water and food to the couch and feed him by hand so he can get his medicine and keep his strength up.

Spike is a loving, caring dog who will always be there for his family.
Morris stated, “We love our boy so much and we are so glad that he is in our lives.” “Hopefully, we have made up his poor start in life by giving him all the love in this world.”
