However, one account is more heartbreaking than all the rest: a faithful pup who was found still waiting for its owner where they had committed suicide.
Xu made a heart-wrenching discovery on the Yangtze Bridge in Wuhan, China – an abandoned dog. He shared photos of his find on social media that quickly went viral and melted hearts across the globe.
In an attempt to give the pup a loving home, Xu attempted to take him in. However, after hearing from those working nearby that on May 30th a man had jumped off of a bridge, he realized that this dog was faithfully waiting for his master’s return.
Mr. Xu sadly recounted to the Chutian Metropolis Daily that “I wanted to save it, yet it was too loyal and refused me.” The pup simply gazed through the railing, stunned and bewildered by its unexpected plight while declining both food and water.
After Xu concluded his story, Du Fan, the director of the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association immediately visited the bridge and managed to save the dog.
Confirmation from video surveillance showed that the pup’s master had taken a plunge off the bridge, leaving only hope of starting anew for the dog. Thankfully, rescuers raced to provide an opportunity to write a new story for this faithful companion.
Du expressed his wish for a new owner to adopt the loyal canine, lamenting its current situation of being homeless on the streets. “We can’t bear to think that such an affectionate animal has no place to call home,” he said in a statement reported by Daily Mail.
