As the winter storms wreaked havoc on Serbia’s streets, a homeless dog named Hera was left in an overwhelming state of fear and worry.
With little access to food or a place to keep her delicate puppies warm, she scavenged all that she could before crawling through heavy snowfall towards a damp and frigid drainpipe by the roadside – hoping it would bring some respite.
For days, Hera was consumed with worry for her ailing puppies. She would desperately rush out of the pipe whenever she heard an approaching vehicle, pleading to each passerby to help save them – yet all hope was crushed as none offered any solace or comfort that she so needed for her little pups.
Milan of the Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac braved a turbulent storm to rescue Hera at the request of an onlooker.
Despite heavy snowfall and blocked roads, he followed her paw-prints until he could get his hands on her. Now in the comfort and security of their shelter, she is safe from any more storms or harm that may have come her way.
Brightness illuminated Hera’s face when she heard Milan coming near the pipe, and in an instant, she raced out to greet him.
Despite his joy at seeing her pleasant demeanor, dread filled his heart upon uncovering her sodden puppies shivering inside the tube. To rescue them proved more onerous than he anticipated; these 4-week-old pups were about as fragile as can be.
Hera’s puppies did not know humans and were consequently overwhelmed by Milan. Despite Hera’s comforting words, they refused to move from their dismal home for the unfamiliarity left them unaware that something better was waiting for them. With nightfall quickly approaching, Milan hurriedly acted to persuade the puppies out of their fearful dwelling before dark.
