From selling baked goods to donating plasma twice a week in Baton Rouge from Denham Springs, as reported by The Humane Society of Louisiana (HSLA), no expense has been spared for her loving pup.

Currently, the vet has deduced that Kodiak is dealing with an infection in the spine or a bulging/slipped disc. The only way to confirm this diagnosis definitively is through MRI results; however, Lowell was unable to finance such an expensive procedure which can cost anywhere from $2,500-$3,500.

Refusing to accept defeat, the Maurepas dweller was intent on gathering enough money for Kodiak’s vet bill. She began selling baked goods and donating her plasma; soon after she even started a GoFundMe page in aid of raising funds for her beloved pet. “I have been aiding animal rescue operations for 17 years now,” she declared proudly.

For years, I was able to generously aid those in need by providing assistance with their pets and rescuing homeless animals. At one point, my dependable job enabled me to invest in others; however, that all changed when I became disabled. Nowadays I am very limited financially so every penny counts – even if it means having fewer funds for emergency pet care expenses of my own.”

As my beloved four-legged child and best friend, this current situation with Kodiak has been an excruciating struggle. His companionship has aided me through tough times in life, making it impossible for me to let him go; I’ve had the privilege of his loyalty for 12 years now. Despite having limited funds, I will not give up on helping him – I refuse to put him down just yet!

Despite knowing that people have their own financial troubles, I’m in no way expecting a large number of donations. But even the smallest donation of $5 has been enough to fill my heart with immense gratitude for all the support received,” said KALB. It’s incredible to see how much this fundraiser has exceeded its expectations and raised over $6,500!

Lowell’s compassionate devotion towards her beloved dog, Kodiak, has moved the hearts of many people – including Jeff Dorson, Director of HSLA. “Shana is a true champion,” he commented with admiration. “I’ve never heard of anyone dedicating themselves so much to save their pet that they’d even go as far as selling plasma for it! We are profoundly proud to support Shana’s mission and wish everyone around this area will contribute to helping fulfill her goal.” If Lowell succeeds in collecting enough funds for an MRI scan and acupuncture treatments for Kodiak, she won’t have to keep him on anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids anymore.
