Dog Chained To Fire Hydrant After Previous Owners Could No Longer Take Care Of Her

Properly surrendering your pet to a shelter or finding them a loving home can be difficult, but it’s always worth it in the end.

A heartbreaking photo of a little dog left tied to a fire hydrant by her former owner went viral, but thankfully, the dog is now in safe hands.

Baby Girl, a tan mixed-breed dog, was found tied up to a fire hydrant in Green Bay, Wisconsin with a note from her former owners. According to WFRV Local 5, the note said that they could no longer care for Baby Girl and included a backpack full of her toys, food, and treats.

Even though the owners had justification for their actions and thought they were being responsible, it was quite a surprise for Kyle Rose Engelhardt, a nearby woman who found the dog and mirrored the story on Facebook.

She was devastated to see Baby Girl in this condition: “Cannot believe someone could do this,” she wrote, asking if anyone recognized the abandoned dog.

Kylie immediately contacted the police after finding the dog and took her to the Wisconsin Humane Society. The kind individuals at the society nursed her back to health and she is now doing well in their stray unit.

Despite the fact that this wasn’t the most responsible way to get rid of a dog and many people reacted with outrage upon hearing the story, the Humane Society was more sympathetic to the owners. They addressed them directly in a Facebook post:

First and foremost, we are truly sorry for your loss. It’s evident how much you loved her and we can see that you did everything you could despite your own medical complications and challenges in life.

We see how much you love Baby Girl in the meticulously packed bag of her favorite things. We see your overflowing love in the way you secured her leash to keep her safe from cars. Your huge capacity for love is evident by placing Baby Girl where she would be quickly found by kind strangers. It’s also clear how much you adore her by looking at how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. Lastly, we catch a glimpse of your purest form of love through the note you left behind–begging someone to help care for BabyGirl when you could no longer do it yourself.

The Humane Society gratefully spoke to the owners, even though they understand that surrender fees may be a barrier. They composed that Baby Girl is now getting lots of attention and love from the staff, and she has a wonderful future waiting for her.

Please share this story to spread the word about this beautiful dog!
