Dog Loses Ears After a Traumatic Attack But Concerned Vet Tech Crochets Him a New Pair

In a heartbreaking incident, Willy Wonka, an ambitious two-year-old pup found himself stuck in a fence and then attacked by dogs from the neighboring property. Thankfully, Sacramento SPCA was able to rescue the dog before his situation became any worse.

Because of the damage, veterinary experts had to perform delicate surgery on the animal and remove both ear flaps. Shelter volunteer John Holmquist provided loving care for the pup during his recovery.

Although he recognized Willy’s kind nature, his fears of the boy’s visible scars and missing ears potentially driving away potential adopters prevented him from finding a forever home.

He went home and created something that would make Willy Wonka as lovable as any pup in the shelter.

After suffering a dog attack, he had his floppy ears torn off. But then something amazing happened – his vet tech knitted him some new ones! The SPCA captioned the post “When your loss becomes someone else’s gain”. This proved that even in difficult times, there is always hope and generosity of spirit to be found.

Holmquist spoke to KCRA and revealed that although Willy wasn’t a fan of his hat at first, he looked too cute for words. Photos showcasing the new look quickly became an internet sensation.

On the sixth of January, Willy was ready to find a forever family. The SPCA optimistically believed that his newfound notoriety would assist in connecting him with an owner who could offer him love and care.

Over the weekend, news sources reported that Willy had found a loving home, however, it was not to be as his soon-to-be companion did not take kindly to him. Today they confirmed that Willy is again at SPCA Sacramento in search of his forever family.

In spite of this loss, they remain dedicated and positive that the ideal family is out there for Willy. He’s been described as a laid-back “couch potato” who doesn’t mind living with children and has an easy-going personality perfect for any other dog looking to befriend him – regardless of his individual look!
