Dogs are man’s best friend, and for the majority of them, everyone is the man!
That is the typical nature and temperament of dogs. Even if you appear to be afraid of them, they will approach you and try to make friends with you. You can win them over by giving them a few treats.
Although it begins with treats, their devotion to a person is based on trust. It’s similar to the attachment you develop with your neighbor’s dog when you visit them frequently or give them a kind pet when you pass by their yard.
Lily is one of those friendly dogs down the block.
Ishaan Chatterjee, her owner, regards her as his best friend but had to acknowledge that she also has other greatest friends. He saw that his friend would say hello to practically everyone who went by, and with that demeanor, it would be impossible to make friends with anyone who would stop by and say hey.
When she encountered a canvasser or mailman, she was always prepared to wave and pet them. Sadly, not everyone stopped to notice this affectionate puppy.
Except for the garbage man.
Every Thursday night, Lily’s family would empty the trash cans, and the following morning, a truck would come and pick them up. She hoped that this man would become her best friend in the future.
As she waited for the truck to show up, David, a sanitation worker, saw her close. Lily appeared to enjoy the nice head pat he offered her. Their friendship began in this manner.
Since then, David has consistently arrived on time and with treats in his pockets.
Lily and David established a ritual whereby she waits patiently for the truck to arrive at the gate while David descends to give her a pat and some goodies before emptying the family’s trash and leaving. Each and every time!
Ishaan enjoyed observing the two by the window as their friendship developed brilliantly. He didn’t want to interfere, so he captured those beautiful moments. He merely wanted to demonstrate to others how beautifully humans can relate to animals.
He shared these TikTok videos, which have received a lot of views.
A little over 750,000 people watched the first video he posted, while over 2 million people watched the second one! The bond between these two was utterly adored and appreciated.
He added a text saying, “I think it’s the best part of both of their days,” to one of his films. Lily’s tail would wag anytime she spotted the garbage truck, and David was obviously liberal with his gifts.
Ishaan also shared with The Dodo how their exchange had made everyone think of kindness.
“Their relationship has blossomed into the sweetest thing,” he said. Ishaan added that while Lily has always been friendly to anyone, he could tell that her bond with David was deeper.
In the same interview, he added that Lily and David exemplified what kindness is and ought to be. No matter who they were or what they did, Lily always returned generosity with kindness. It really is that easy to be kind.
