In a tale that tugs at the heartstrings, a stray dog in Buenos Aires, Argentina, forms an unlikely bond with a German flight attendant, Olivia Sievers. Here is their heartwarming story.
Usually, the human picks the dog, but this time, it was the other way around. Olivia often flies to Buenos Aires for work, staying at the same hotel each time. During one of these visits in June 2016, she met a friendly stray dog who had made the neighborhood his home.
Olivia offered the dog some food and spent time playing with him. Little did she know this small act of kindness would spark a strong bond between them. She named him Rubio, which translates to “blonde” in German.
From that day forward, Rubio became a regular fixture outside Olivia’s hotel. Every sighting of Olivia would send his tail wagging, and he would eagerly roll over for belly rubs.
“I tried to change my path because I didn’t want him following me back to the hotel,” Olivia told Noticero Trece. “But it was impossible. He always found me and followed me.”
Rubio’s attachment to Olivia was evident – he wasn’t going anywhere. Olivia continued feeding him and even gave him an airline blanket to keep warm.
Wanting to ensure Rubio’s safety, Olivia contacted a local animal shelter. They took him in, but Rubio determined not to lose sight of Olivia, escaped and returned to the hotel.
When Olivia had to fly back to Germany, Rubio was left to roam the streets again. But he never forgot the human who had shown him kindness.
On her subsequent trips to Buenos Aires, Rubio always greeted Olivia, patiently waiting at the hotel entrance. His unwavering loyalty moved Olivia so much that she decided to adopt him.
After completing all the necessary paperwork, Rubio was flown to Germany in August 2016.
Rubio adapted well to his new surroundings, enjoying playtime with his new canine sibling in the backyard. Olivia often takes Rubio on outdoor adventures, including frolicking in the snow and watching fish in a local lake.
Rubio enjoys cozying up near the wood-burning oven when the weather gets chilly.
Rubio’s life has transformed drastically since meeting Olivia. Rubio couldn’t have asked for more, from a rough street life to a loving family and a warm home.
