The thought of not knowing where your dog is can be devastating for any pet parent. Unfortunately, even the best-behaved dogs can run off if they get scared, and Border Collies are no exception. When Rosie ran away after hearing some fireworks, her family feared the worst. However, luckily Rosie is an intelligent dog who knew exactly what to do in an emergency situation.
Instead of running away as fast as she could, Rosie ran to the local police station and stopped. Her humans must have taught her well because fleeing the scene would not have been a good idea. She went inside and “turned herself in.”
The Harpers adopted Rosie from K9 Focus eight years ago, and she usually goes on walks with the rest of her family. One day, a firework scared her so badly that she ran away without thinking twice.
Julie said that Rosie showed signs of stress while they were walking in Southfields Park. She didn’t act out until she heard the firework, though.
Upon seeing the firework, Julie’s daughter quickly ran to stand behind her father for safety. Nervous, when the firework went off she then pushed herself through a hedge and left rapidly.
Steve and Julie were frantic when they lost Rosie, but luckily she was found by the time they got home!
Rosie ambled into the police station, captured by the security cameras near the automatic doors. After meandering around for a few moments, she sat in the waiting area, looking as though this is where one would go to report a missing person.
Our compassionate staff not only provided top-notch care for Rosie but also formed friendships with her along the way. Thanks to her collar, we were quickly able to get in touch with her owner and reunite them.
Rosie showed great intelligence when she ran off to the police station on her own, and her family is very grateful that she didn’t run away for too long.
