On Christmas Day, A Senior Dog Was Miraculously Rescued After Being Discovered Covered In Snow

As temperatures plummeted below zero in Michigan, a heartless individual cruelly abandoned an elderly and malnourished dog just before Christmas. Thankfully, this pup has been spared from certain death as she was discovered shivering out in the cold. Emmy is now safe after being rescued by kind-hearted bystanders.

For approximately 36 hours, Emmy was curled up in a solitary ball of snow before Friends Of The River Rouge Animal Shelter were alerted and graciously came to her rescue. Miraculously, they found the tiny pup blanketed by frosty winter snowfall.

In this frigid weather, animals are perishing outside and we were lucky enough to save one dog just in time. The Friends Of The River Rouge Animal Shelter issued a plea on Facebook warning of the dangers that these creatures face when exposed to extreme temperatures – it’s only by sheer luck that this pup was found alive as she wouldn’t have lasted much longer without help.

P.O.E.T Animal Rescue was quick to step in and help the shelter, taking Emmy straight to the emergency vet clinic for care. It’s thought that she may be around 8-9 years old – a senior dog who has endured so much distress, confusion, and freezing temperatures as a stray before being found by P.O.E.T Animal Rescue volunteers and taken into safety – an incredibly heartwarming story of hope for this sweet pup!

On the morning of December 23, Emmy was rescued and brought to the vet where she was immediately cocooned in a blanket for warmth and stability. By afternoon, her condition had greatly improved!

Today, we found Emmy snuggled and frigid in the snow. Despite her dire circumstances, she remained full of sweetness. Now at our emergency animal rescue clinic, warm and safe from the cold temps outside, Emmy continues to demonstrate resilience as she maintains a steady body temperature – an impressive feat!

After a thorough examination, we found that Emmy is alarmingly underweight and requires extensive dental care. Her skin was irritated and she had pressure sores from being in captivity for an extended amount of time. We also noticed her nerves were shaky as she walked around unsteadily. On the upside, Emmy tested negative for heartworm and loves all the love and affection showering upon her now!

After a visit to the vet, Emmy’s condition improved dramatically. According to P.O.E.T., her stability and power of movement had augmented significantly but she was still walking with caution; however, this didn’t stop her from being inquisitive and attached to people! She also knew how to behave politely around food, responded successfully when told to ‘sit’, could jump up on couches effortlessly, as well as climb into laps warmly.

Emmy was fortunate enough to not spend Christmas alone; after she was discharged from the vet, she found a loving home with Alex and Chris where she can rest comfortably.

To celebrate the Christmas holidays, she snuggled up in a comfortable onesie with her foster family and Alex and Chris’ other furry friends. Poetically expressing his delight in this new life for the pup, P.O.E.T wrote: “Last night she received a bath, dressed up in jammies & slept soundly through the entire evening on her foster’s bed; I’m certain that it felt like such an enchanted dream to her! Yet, sweet girl – this is your reality now!”

We want to thank every one of you for being a part of Emmy’s journey. She still has a long road ahead before she is restored, but we are so pleased that this New Year marks the start of her new life with us! Before the rescue, it was difficult to envision what 2022 would look like for Emmy; however, now we can imagine her contentedly sitting indoors while taking wagon rides – wherever she fits!
