The 3-year old Shibu Inu’s owner reports that her dog ran out of the yard through a hole in their fence and was hit by a car. Even though the driver felt something, they didn’t see the little dog who ended up stuck behind the car grill.

The driver cruised on for another 45 minutes, with Coco holding tight behind the front bumper. It wasn’t until a car was pulling into Rotterdam did the woman hear strange noises and decided to inspect her vehicle again.

That’s when she saw Coco beneath the license plates, just staring wide-eyed back at her.

“When she arrived, her elbow was shattered,” a Hernas Veterinary Clinic worker who treated her said in the video below from 10 News. “To be honest, I can’t believe she survived it. I thought she would have been dead by the time we got to her or that we would have had to put her down.”

Though visibly shaken with bruises, considering her ordeal, Coco was in relatively good shape. Reporters and her veterinary crew were caught on camera cuddling the little dog by the end of the interview below.

Hernas Veterinary Clinic is creating a GoFundMe account for Coco, a small dog who recently survived surgery but whose medical bills totaled $4,000—an amount her owner cannot afford.
