For nearly ten years, a dog named Rockland roamed the hallways of an apartment building, relying on the kindness of residents for food and care. He was “no one’s dog,” and despite their best efforts, the tenants couldn’t provide him with the love and stability he needed.
When the residents realized they couldn’t care for Rockland any longer, they called Animal Haven for help. The senior pup was finally safe and sheltered, but finding a family for him wouldn’t be easy. Tedi Sarah, an Animal Haven volunteer, worried that Rockland’s age and recent cancer diagnosis would make it difficult for him to find a home.
Tedi Sarah was determined to help Rockland experience the love and comfort of a family. She shared his story on social media during Christmas, hoping to find someone who would adopt him and prevent him from spending another holiday alone.
To everyone’s surprise, the heartfelt post attracted numerous potential adopters. People empathized with Rockland’s story and wanted to give him a chance at happiness. Tedi Sarah was thrilled with the response and said, “Rockland was one of my favorite success stories because it worked so quickly!”
After reviewing applications, Bessy Gatto emerged as the perfect fit for Rockland. She had a big heart and experience rescuing special needs dogs. Upon seeing the Christmas post, Bessy reached out to Animal Haven about adopting Rockland.
Now, Rockland has a loving mom and lots of new siblings, both canine and human. He’ll never have to worry about being alone again. Tedi Sarah shared, “He’s a big brother now to little dog siblings and two human siblings, who he is so gentle with. They all adore him.”
In the end, Rockland’s story is a testament to the power of compassion and determination. Thanks to Tedi Sarah’s efforts and Bessy Gatto’s loving home, this once-forgotten dog finally found the family he deserved.
Please share this beautiful story with your loved ones!
