Shelter Dog Gets Rescued Just in Time, Moments Before Euthanasia

MADELINE GARVIS

Bear, a gentle stray dog from Texas, found himself in a dire situation. After being overlooked by potential adopters at the BARC Animal Shelter, he was placed on the euthanasia list. This sweet senior canine seemed to have lost all hope.

Since arriving at the shelter in June, the 11-year-old dog was passed over every day. Bear’s spirits were low, and he couldn’t even muster the energy to lift his head from his bed. As one of 28 dogs scheduled for euthanasia that day, time was running out for Bear.

Madeline Garvis, a BARC volunteer, couldn’t believe such a calm and friendly dog like Bear was facing this fate. Determined to help, she decided to take Bear out of his kennel and show off his true personality.

Once outside, Bear’s demeanor changed completely. He suddenly knew how to shake hands, enjoyed being outdoors, and loved receiving affection. Garvis realized that many dogs, like Bear, act differently outside their kennels and deserve a chance to show their true selves.

Despite having a heartworm, Bear was an ideal pet – he walked well on a leash, knew basic commands, and was quiet. Garvis was adamant about finding him home before it was too late.

Garvis took to Facebook to share Bear’s story and emphasize his loving nature. Her efforts paid off as Bear found his forever home just an hour before his scheduled euthanasia.
