Lucky, an adorable beagle mix, thought he had found his forever home when he was adopted from the Green County Animal Shelter in Ruckersville, Virginia. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Lucky soon found himself back at the shelter and lost hope of ever finding a loving family.
The shelter shared Lucky’s story on their Facebook page, expressing their heartache for him as he struggled to adjust to life as a shelter dog once again. Lucky had been at the shelter for over a month, which can be difficult for any dog.
Initially adopted in March 2021, Lucky was loved by his family. As he grew, however, it became too much for them to handle. They had expected him to remain a medium-sized beagle mix, but he turned out to be more of a hound mix, growing larger than anticipated.
In September, Lucky was returned to the shelter, and his chances of finding a new home seemed slim. The shelter’s Facebook post highlighted his best qualities, like his excellent leash-walking skills, his love for the outdoors, and his affection for children, cats, and other dogs.
The post urged people to share Lucky’s story with friends and family, hoping someone could provide a home that could accommodate his size. Lucky still considered himself a lap dog and had so much love to give.
Thanks to his Facebook post going viral, Lucky began to receive the attention he deserved. Shelter spokesperson Anna Swanson told The Dodo that he was initially scared and nervous upon returning to the shelter. He preferred being outside and was hesitant to interact with strangers.
But within a few days, Lucky’s luck changed. He was adopted by his forever family, and the shelter updated their post to share the happy news.
