As the holiday season approaches, and we all prepare to spend time with our beloved families, let us not forget those who do not have a home of their own. Numerous homeless dogs will be in shelters over Christmas – so it is essential that we take care of these defenseless animals in need this festive period.
But these loyal companions deserve some extra special Christmas joy, and they are sure to go wild for a squeaky new toy!
To get their four-legged friends in the holiday spirit, one animal charity created an unimaginably sweet Christmas tradition – permitting dogs to pick out their own presents! To make this possible, a wide array of toys were spread across the floor for them to choose from.
Since 2019, Dogs Trust Ireland has made dreams come true for their furry friends by lining up all the toys generously donated by supporters across a room and allowing each pup from the Rehoming Centre to choose one. Every dog gets his or her own special present – utterly delightful!
The joyful pups can hardly contain their excitement as they enter the wondrous room full of toys. What’s even more remarkable is that each pup carefully chooses one toy from the collection and considers it their precious gift!
Milo’s a smart pup who knows exactly what he wants. He always chooses the longest toy out of his collection, no matter how many other toys there are!
While Gizmo, like many others, requires some extra time to locate the perfect toy with a satisfying squeak.
There’s no denying that any toy they choose brings immense joy and happiness to these furry friends.
Chase sprawls on the ground with glee, having picked out his favorite toy — this pup is living his best Christmas ever!
It’s been a few years since we started the “Santa Paws Day” tradition, and we hope to carry it on for many more.
Employees at the shelter used to buy toys for specific dogs as a “Secret Santa” exchange, yet this new way of presenting each pup with their favorite toy ensures they get exactly what they want.
If you’re considering bringing home a furry friend this holiday season, Dogs Trust Ireland urges you to make an informed decision first: owning a dog is an incredible responsibility and should be taken seriously since it’s for life.
Ahead of the Christmas season, Ciara Byrne from Dogs Trust Ireland urgently implores everyone to not buy any puppies as this is a highly profitable period for puppy farmers. Humane dog lovers do not want to contribute to such an abhorrent trade and we encourage them to be mindful of their actions in order to help prevent it.
As an alarmingly high number of dogs were rehomed in 2021 due to a surge in demand during the pandemic, this Christmas is the perfect time for you to make a difference and help out our furry friends. The charity encourages people to sponsor one instead as it will offer them more stability and security.
