When Squishy was first spotted on Saipan’s beach, she was nothing short of terrified. It didn’t take long for the beachgoers to realize that her condition was dire and they immediately contacted Boonie Babies Rescue in search of help.
Aria Keilbach, the creator of Boonie Babies Rescue, revealed that her house is just a few minutes away from the beach. Because of this convenient location, she was able to get there quickly and found Squishy severely dehydrated and weakened by the heat. Upon seeing that Squishy had a collar on it became clear to Keilbach that someone had purposely abandoned him.
It was clear that Squishy had been neglected for weeks, evidenced by her mange, tick disease, and malnutrition.
But shockingly enough she had only been abandoned on the beach a day or two prior! Despite being hostile to Keilbach and his team of volunteers when they arrived to help her, it was simple for them to capture her as she lacked any strength left.
The pup was swaddled in a towel and taken by Keilbach. Her first instinct was to be fearful, but as soon as she recognized the genuine intentions of those around her, she settled down; wagging her tail with relief.
According to Keilbach, while the physical transformation of Squishy is certainly astounding, it’s her personality development that has been truly mesmerizing. Confident and endearing with a keen intellect paired with an enthusiasm for learning – what’s not to adore? Not only does she enjoy exploring fresh environments and playing alongside other pups; but as if this weren’t enough, she loves nothing more than working in exchange for treats!
Generally, Keilbach saves dogs and finds them forever homes – but after witnessing Squishy’s amazing metamorphosis, she knew there was no way she’d be able to part with her.
Ever since I’ve been in Saipan, I have devoted myself to the rescue and adoption of 300 dogs. Out of all these animals, however, my love for Squishy has exceeded any other—so much that it’s become impossible for me to part with her. Consequently, she will remain an integral member of Boonie Babies as we move forward!
After much effort and patience, Squishy gradually regained her fur! Keilbach was so amazed by the beauty of this rescue dog that she decided to adopt it as a member of her own family.
