7-Year-Old Boy Saves Over 1300 Dogs and Wins ASPCA Kid Of The Year Award

Roman McConn may be just 7 years old, but he is already making a huge impact on the world.

When Roman was just 4 years old, he started getting involved with animal rescue, determined to help save as many dogs as possible from high-kill shelters. Over the past 3 years, Roman has saved over 1,300 dogs.

Roman’s hard work and dedication didn’t go unnoticed. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) recently awarded Roman with their ASPCA Kid of the Year Award. This young boy truly changed the lives of hundreds of homeless dogs.

It all started on Roman’s 4th birthday when he asked his family and friends to donate to his favorite animal rescue organization instead of giving him gifts. With the help of his mother Jennifer, Roman then started to find other ways of helping homeless dogs.

One of their first projects was arranging transportation for 31 dogs that were in a high-kill shelter in Texas. They drove them to a shelter in Washington State, where each dog found a permanent home.

Jennifer started posting videos of Roman playing with the dogs from their local shelter on Facebook. These videos showed each dog’s unique personality, helping them to find loving homes more easily. In Roman’s own words, “The videos increase the dogs’ chances of finding the home that’s right for them.”

Now Roman and his mother have started their kill shelter rescue organization, Project Freedom Ride. This amazing nonprofit rescues animals from Texas shelters and works to find them loving, permanent homes.

Roman and Jennifer hope to inspire other children and families to join them in their mission to help homeless animals.
