A Dog Was Found In a Tent With “Help” Written on the Outside, Struggling to Survive

An urgent plea for help was written on the exterior of a tent in the Eastern woods of London, Ontario; “Help. There’s a dog left here.” And inside snuggled a small brown and tan pup.

When two young hikers were out strolling near Pottersburg Dog Park, they stumbled across a tent with the word “help” painted onto its side. Upon peeking inside, they discovered a black and brown pup that urgently needed assistance. So naturally, the duo immediately contacted Shelby Tilley – founder of Bark at the Moon Animal Rescue – to send aid for this canine in need.

She later informed CBC News that the pup was seemingly abandoned for multiple days. Inside, there were remnants of urine and fecal matter all around; in addition, a bowl filled with murky brown water sat nearby.

Tilley was determined to reunite the pup (now called Tank) with its rightful owner, so she left a note containing her contact information in the tent. To that end, Tilley spoke with shelters and posted messages on social media sites hoping someone will recognize it.

She expressed that the possibility of Tank being left behind deliberately is quite high, and his human (a homeless individual) could have been taken to the hospital or something else may have occurred.

On TikTok, she wrote: “We are devoted to ensuring the puppy’s safety and will collaborate with those involved to make it happen. Everyone is going through a hard time right now so please refrain from vile comments or being critical.”

Sharing a TikTok video of her pup and the tent, Tilley expressed “It’s been an insane day” – and it sure has!

@shelbymorgantilley It’s been a crazy crazy day. Please share this and help us find his owner. We just want to see the puppy safe, and will work with them to help make that happen. It’s been a very very emotional day for everyone so please try to keep any negativity, judgements or hate to yourself. #founddog #rescuedog #londonON #ldnont #help ♬ Dandelions – Ruth B.

Tilley is eager to support Tank’s family in any way she can so that everyone involved can be happy and safe. She hopes to discuss with Tank’s owner first to explore ways she could lend her assistance – whether by offering shelter through the Canadian winter or providing food for the pup.

To keep Tank safe, Tilley is shelling out to keep him at a boarding facility until he finds a new home.
