Although small in size, this determined street pup demonstrates that might is not measured by stature.

In the Groendal township of South Africa’s Western Cape region, Sidewalk Specials rescuers discovered a tiny puppy that had been abandoned. Despite being mistreated by humans in the past, he still happily wagged his tail when they found him on the side of the street with some stale bread at his side – even offering to share it with them!

In the initial Facebook post about Gunnar, who was formerly known as a puppy before his rescue and adoption, it was noted that he suffered from anemia.

Gunnar’s health is declining drastically; he has a severe tick bite fever and an eye infection that needs medical attention immediately. He also has one of the worst worm and tick infestations we have witnessed–so bad, it breaks our hearts to see him suffer.

Despite being abandoned and spending a week in the vet to receive treatment, Gunnar maintained an “absolutely positive attitude” that allowed him to be declared fit for adoption. Within two short weeks of his release from the vet, Gunnar found his forever home! His resilience is truly inspiring.

Freya, Gunnar’s new mother, marveled at his small size by saying it was “tiny, like half of my arm” and reported that he had no difficulty connecting with them.

“He was so grateful to be saved! You could tell he had never seen a lawn before – his eyes were wide in amazement and exploration. Everywhere we went, Freya said cheerfully, he wanted to investigate,”

Gunnar’s fervor for rocks is still going strong, according to Freya. She claimed that he acquired his rock infatuation the moment they welcomed him into their home.

Freya remarked, “He scours the area for the perfect stone – not just any rock would do. He then brings it to us; what a little rockstar!”

Ever since they welcomed Gunnar into the family, Freya’s household has only grown larger. At the start of 2020, they began fostering other animals to give both Gunnar and themselves a positive change—and to offer him some furry friends to play too!

Gunnar’s dad speaks highly of him, remarking that he is innately amiable and curious – almost like a pack leader! After becoming acquainted with the foster animals, Gunnar takes it upon himself to direct them around his home. This “happy little creature” continues to remain cheerful as ever, despite all these life changes, according to his doting father.
