In March of three years ago, Mary Kleiner took to social media in search of her lost furry friend Delilah. In addition to this attempt at finding the sweet pup, she also reached out to BC SPCA in case the animal was taken there by someone else. Yet as time kept passing, no trace or sign of Delilah had been found and hope began fading away for Mary…

Mary, a realtor from Vancouver, said to her kids: “We lost her. Perhaps she’ll come home one day – if not though, it’s possible that someone else needed her more than we did.”

A heartwarming reunion between pup and family was set in motion when an observant Trail Appliances employee spotted a box with something special inside it only days ago.

Emma Michel, assistant manager of BC SPCA’s Richmond branch, remarked that the animal appeared to be in distress and she initially assumed it was a rabbit.

When the employee noticed Delilah, an ailing Chihuahua, he swiftly contacted the Richmond division of BC SPCA. Upon receiving her in their care, it was apparent that she needed urgent help. Fortunately for Delilah, her lifesaver had arrived just in time!

Emma was heartbroken upon spotting the pitiful state of the animal. She noted that it had been deprived of nourishment, lacked access to potable water, seemed partially deaf and blind due to age or other factors, lacked teeth altogether, its ears were frozen from exposure in winter weather conditions and it exhibited signs of anemia.

Following the post about her ailing Chi pup, Delilah, on Facebook, the BC SPCA implored their followers to reach out if they knew anything. And when people viewed photos of Delilah’s sweet face – one follower recollected recognizing it from somewhere else before.

When Emma heard of a woman named Mary Kleiner and her family that had been searching for their missing Chihuahua for the past three years, she was shocked. After receiving an email from Mary inquiring if the dog they were taking care of maybe hers, it felt like a miracle!

As soon as the pup was identified to be Mary’s beloved Delilah, a reunion was promptly arranged. The staff and volunteers were overjoyed at being part of this special moment with tears streaming down their faces. Everyone felt like they were witnessing a miracle!

With Delilah back home, Mary exclaimed in joy and astonishment, “It’s simply a miracle! It feels as though she never left – I can’t believe it!”

The Kleiner family is filled with joy to be reunited and celebrate the holidays, taking this time of healing for Delilah day by day. Although she has been absent from them for quite some time, they understand that recovery requires patience and understanding.
