As humans, we meticulously plan for a pregnancy. But what about our canine companions? How do they feel about having puppies? Do they have any idea that it’s coming or is it a surprise when the whelps arrive? We often ponder these questions and seek to understand more of this mysterious process.
After much research, we’ve come across a touching story that shows us that dogs are fully aware of their unborn puppies even before they’re born. This heartwarming proof completely supports the idea that these furry companions demonstrate parental love and care during pregnancy.
This heartbreaking tale follows a pit bull grieving the loss of her litter. The bereaved mother was inconsolable until rescuers offered an incredible solution- a tiny, orphaned pup for her to foster and care for. To witness this canine’s healing journey firsthand is truly remarkable!

In the dead of winter in York, South Carolina, Animal Control encountered Daya, a pregnant pit bull who had been aimlessly wandering. To offer her the most loving home possible for giving birth to her puppies, Halfway There Rescue was contacted and provided a foster family for Daya so that she could welcome her little ones into the world with plenty of comfort and security.
Tragically, life had something else in store. The expectant mother was subjected to a difficult journey during her pregnancy, culminating in an emergency operation due to infection complications. Sadly, this ultimately resulted in the loss of her litter.
It was evident that the distressed dog comprehended she had misplaced her puppies. Daya descended into grief, and shelter workers became alarmed for her wellbeing. Fortunately, they devised a plan to help restore happiness for both Daya and the other animals in their care.
Abandoned and alone, Raisin was discovered on the side of a road in need of help. With an injured eye and severely ill, she required nothing more than maternal care to get back on her feet again.
When faced with the need to find a loving home for one puppy and an adoring mom for another, what did the team do? They brought them together! Daya was paired with Raisin in hopes of mutual companionship, and voila – they became fast friends. For once in her life, Raisin felt safe and secure; while Daya finally felt fulfilled by having someone she could care for unconditionally.
Daya’s loving care healed Raisin’s, broken heart. Through attentive nurturing, until the pup was fully grown and weaned, Daya had her motherly instincts fulfilled. Her new family soon fell in love with her and decided to adopt her, so she could live out the rest of her life contentedly by their side.
Raisin has found her happily ever after, with the family that had provided foster care for her now adopting her. She and her new younger sibling get along splendidly–this is all thanks to Daya’s exemplary parenting!
