During the chaotic holiday season, particularly for those taking to the skies, no one experienced a more harrowing travel experience than an innocent pup who was left behind by her owner at Des Moines airport just last week.

This heartbreaking situation has given this pup a silver lining – she is now safe and sound, searching for her forever home where she can receive all the love that she deserves.

On December 29th, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa discovered a one-year-old canine left bound outside Des Moines International Airport. The pup has since been christened Allie!

Allie, the dog, was left at the airport when her owner attempted to board a plane without providing her with an appropriate kennel. The individual had returned alone and boarded their flight before Allie was discovered by authorities roaming outside of the building.

As reported by Daily Mail, Bigsen Charles, a 24-year-old man who left his dog behind in order to make it on the flight he had already checked into told them: “I was under the impression that I could simply pay for my pup’s seat and they would provide a kennel – little did I know one must bring their own.” To avoid missing his flight, he ultimately decided to leave the dog at home.

Charles recognized that somebody would end up accepting responsibility for the dog, revealing “I knew someone would end up taking her.” Unfortunately, he was unable to find a solution himself and make arrangements.

As reported by Today, a warrant was issued and the animal’s owner obliged the Animal Rescue League of Iowa to hand over Allie. Amazingly enough, she is still in good spirits despite all that has happened.

Tom Colvin, CEO of the Animal Rescue League (ARL), expressed to Today how friendly and lovable this pup is. Airport staff took care of her with a blanket and their attention until ARL’s animal services officers arrived. Tom described her as “very sweet”.

Colvin also remarked on the good fortune of Allie, who had not been left in the cold for long, given that only a few days ago it had been extremely frosty.

He further gave the good news that Allie’s future looks bright: she will be available for adoption shortly and can start searching for her loving forever home.

Upon Allie’s spay surgery, microchip placement, and any other necessary veterinarian services, the ARL declared she will be ready for adoption.

A thorough investigation into the incident is still underway, and animal abandonment in Iowa carries severe penalties. As a misdemeanor offense, those found guilty of this crime face fines upwards of $105 as well as potential jail sentencing of up to two years.

The most essential factor is that Allie will be receiving quality care and could potentially discover a loving home in the near future.

How devastating it is that Allie’s former owners would choose to abandon her, but thankfully she is now healthy and safe! We can’t wait until the right family discovers Allie and gives her the loving home she deserves.
