Dog Trembling in the Rain and Left Behind was Too Heartbroken to Move

One rainy day, animal lover Valinda Cortez was heading to the store when she spotted a frightened dog in the parking lot.

The weather was cold and wet, and the poor dog looked terrified and miserable. Shaking from both fear and the cold, Valinda knew she couldn’t leave her there. She grabbed a blanket from her car and wrapped it around the shivering dog.

Valinda, still in her pajamas and flip-flops, had planned to visit the local dog shelter in Canton, North Carolina later that day to drop off some blankets. It was one of those very blankets that she used to comfort the scared canine.

Valinda shared the story on Facebook, saying, “This poor baby had been out in the rain and cold for a long time. She was freezing.” She suspected the dog had been abandoned and hoped she’d never have to return to such a terrible situation.

Upon closer inspection, Valinda noticed the dog had an eye infection and an open wound on her leg. Her coat was also dull and unhealthy-looking.

Valinda called her friend Sue, another street dog helper, and told her about the dog. Without hesitation, Sue rushed over to help, and together, they took the dog to the shelter.

They named her Cassie, and now she has a warm bed, plenty of food, and, most importantly, love. Cassie will stay at the shelter until the staff finds the perfect home for her. Despite her traumatic past, Cassie has shown herself to be a loving and kind dog.

Cassie was fortunate to be found by Valinda, who ensured her safety and warmth. This heartwarming story reminds us of the power of compassion and love.
