Dogs are devoted and loyal members of the family, not disposable objects to be discarded when life shifts. To demonstrate this notion, consider a 3-year-old German Shepherd who was heartlessly left behind by his beloved owners after they discovered that they were expecting a baby. We must regard our furry companions with love and respect as we would any other member of the family!
Huddled in a corner of the kennel at Dallas Animal Services, Rocco trembled uncontrollably. The little pup had no idea why his family would leave him there. His sorrowful eyes questioned all who passed by: ‘Why am I here?’ Shelters can be overwhelming for any animal with their unfamiliar smells, noises, and people — it was especially difficult for poor Rocco!
When a woman stumbled upon Rocco, trembling in terror at the shelter, she quickly recorded his plight and posted it online. Preethi Pillaipakkam of DFW German Shepherd Rescue spotted the video and immediately raced to save Rocco from his dire situation.
Pillaipakkam expressed to The Dodo that the shelter was not a suitable environment for timid Rocco, who was too scared to even get into the car and hid beneath the seat.
He paced restlessly, exhibiting considerable stress – it’s no surprise he reacted this way in such a harsh place.
When Pillaipakkam brought Rocco home, they had their work cut out for them as the pup weighed in at a meager 60 pounds.
At first, he was quite shy and bewildered by his new surroundings; however, with the assistance of another family German Shepherd providing companionship and comfort, it wasn’t long before Rocco began to warm up – eventually playing excitedly with toys!
As Pillaipakkam proudly noted on Rocco’s special Instagram page, this was a huge milestone for the pup who had previously been completely closed off.
After his shelter video went viral, hundreds of applications flooded in for Rocco’s adoption. He was eventually taken home by a lucky woman – and he’ll spend his days playing with another pup and snuggling up to his new family members! His mom has taken control of the Instagram account dedicated to him as well, so be sure to follow it if you’re keen on staying updated on this precious pooch!
