Nicholas was just like any other dog at the shelter, hopeful for a forever home. But as time passed, he became the longest resident at the shelter. Every other dog found a home, but no one chose Nicholas. He stood by with a wagging tail, hoping for a family to take him in, but it never happened. The pup was overlooked time and time again while potential adopters chose smaller, younger dogs. It broke our hearts to see him go through this.
As time went on, Nicholas became sad. The hopefulness and wagging tail turned to sadness. He wondered why no one wanted him, what was wrong with him that he couldn’t find a family. We all knew better, but how could we explain it to him?
We tried everything to find Nicholas a loving family. The shelter volunteers took him out every day for a walk and playtime, but it wasn’t enough. We posted his info non-stop on social media, hoping someone would show interest. We put his story on the local news. But despite all of our efforts, nothing worked.
Despite all the earlier disappointments, something amazing happened. Nicholas finally found a family that chose him and loved him exactly as he was. They looked past the stereotype of what a “perfect” dog or family member should be. Watch the video below to see Nicholas’ reaction to being chosen.
Our furry companions in shelters all want the same thing: a loving family and a forever home. They just need someone to give them a chance.
