Heartwarming Story of Homeless Dog Rescued with Her Favorite Stuffed Animal

Almost Home-NO KILL Rescue

A stray German Shepherd was spotted wandering around the streets of Detroit with nothing but her favorite stuffed animal. After her story saddened people all around, this beautiful dog has gotten a second chance at life, thanks to a heroic rescue.

Locals saw the dog wandering the streets and reported that the dog became homeless after her owner passed away. Even though the dog is a female, they called her “Nicholas.” It was a heartbreaking sight: a German Shepherd all alone on the streets.

The locals informed a number of local groups about the dog, including It Is Pawzable Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue. After that, everyone came together and worked as a team, which is truly amazing.

“Everybody comes together and works as a team, which is so amazing,” Katrina Weaver, the owner of It Is Pawzable, told FOX 2.

After intense efforts, the rescue mission was finally successful. The Almost Home No Kill Rescue reported on May 3rd that the dog had been safely trapped and was now in their care. They renamed “Nicholas” “Nikki” because of her gender.

“Only good things from here and onto a better life!” the rescue wrote on Facebook. “Thanks for all your support Nikki will now get to be in a loving home!”

The rescue group discovered that Nikki had a heartworm, which would require four weeks of treatment. Therefore, Nikki is now taking it easy, receiving medication, and going on leash walks until she’s fully recovered.

Once the dog is healthy and heartworm-free, she will be ready to be adopted by someone who will give her the love and care she deserves. For now, Nikki is safe and well taken care of.
