One sunny day, Craig Mcgettrick was tidying his garden with a friend. As they moved an old mattress, they discovered five tiny creatures. What happened next was something they would never forget.
Buried under the mattress were five little pups, seemingly abandoned. Despite waiting for their mother to return, she was nowhere in sight. Craig and his friend assumed someone had left them there, knowing they were about to move the mattress.
Feeling responsible yet unequipped to care for the pups, they decided the best course of action was to take them to the local animal shelter.
After securing the pups in a large box, they went to the shelter. Before parting, they snapped photos and shared their journey on social media. The top also praised Craig’s kindness online.
But as the week rolled on, a surprising revelation came to light.
A knowledgeable animal lover noticed the photos on Facebook and asked whether these ‘puppies’ actually were baby foxes. Upon further inspection, her hunch was confirmed. The ‘puppies’ were, indeed, fox cubs!
The shelter reached out to Craig to explain the situation. It was best for the cubs to be returned where they were found, likely a makeshift den their mother had set up under the mattress.
Craig agreed and placed the box back in his garden. Sure enough, a mature fox appeared, swiftly gathering her babies and vanishing into the nearby woods.
Everyone involved felt a sense of relief and joy, knowing the cubs were better off in the wild with their mother than at any shelter.
