Veterinarian Refuses to Put Deaf and Blind Puppy to Sleep Despite Owners’ Wish

In a heartwarming tale of compassion, a vet refused to euthanize a deaf and blind puppy despite the owners’ request. The owners believed that Aster Rose, a Merle Australian shepherd, wouldn’t have a quality life due to her disabilities. However, the vet saw things differently.

The vet firmly believed that little Aster Rose could still lead a joyful life despite her challenges. He didn’t just refuse to euthanize the pup; he also actively sought help from several rescue centers to find her a new home.

A rescue center took in Aster, and she soon found her forever home with Krysten Harper, a 30-year-old woman from Alabama, US. Krysten, who had previously adopted another disabled miniature Australian shepherd named Little Buddy, was delighted to welcome Aster into her family.

Contrary to what many might think, Aster is a confident dog who loves meeting new people and dogs. “She assumes that everybody, whether human or animal, is simply a new friend to be made,” Krysten shared with The Mirror.

Despite her inability to see, Aster enjoys basking in the sunniest part of the yard, sticking her snout in the air to feel the warmth. She is a happy, energetic dog who wins over everyone she meets.

Krysten emphasizes that feeling bad for disabled dogs like Aster only perpetuates the myth that they are ‘less than.’ Blind and deaf dogs can lead fulfilling lives, and Aster is living proof of this.

Aster’s disability requires unique ways of communication. Krysten uses touch to communicate with Aster. For instance, a hand on her chest means stop, while a nose boop signifies a job well done.

Krysten made a promise to Little Buddy’s rescuer that she would treat him just like any other dog. This same promise extends to Aster, proving that these dogs’ disabilities do not define them.

Aster and Little Buddy have developed an inseparable bond. Krysten describes their relationship as a typical sibling dynamic; Aster adores Little Buddy and thinks he is the most perfect dog in the world. Their journey can be followed on Instagram.
