For hours, rescuers worked tirelessly to revive them and bring life back into their bodies.
As a man leisurely strolled through his neighborhood, he stumbled across an unexpected discovery: an open box filled with two puppies lying motionless from the frigid temperatures. Instinctively, he rushed over to find out what was wrong — and soon after realized that their lives were in danger.
Even though the man was uncertain if it wasn’t too late to salvage the puppies, he knew that he had to at least try. So, with haste, he took them straight away to the KC Pet Project for assistance. The staff members there recognized rapidly that their odds of survival were nominal and without wasting a second began working on rescuing their lives.
Tori Fugate, director of marketing and communications at KC Pet Project, described their state to The Dodo as being “in very bad shape.” To provide them with immediate relief, the staff rushed these animals to the veterinary clinic.
Shockingly dehydrated and freezing cold temperatures had taken a toll on their fragile bodies so they worked diligently for hours administering fluids while cradling each one to keep them warm.
The staff at the rescue worked tirelessly to restore warmth to these 3-week-old puppies and, incredibly, their efforts paid off! Even though they started doing better, everyone was still quite anxious that the pups may not survive until morning. With this in mind, one of the staffers took them home for added care if necessary. Miraculously enough when daybreak arrived both puppies were much better & all could hardly contain their excitement with such positive progress!
“Thanks to the food we provided, they were able to make a full recovery,” Fugate remarked with enthusiasm. “We offered them gruel in the afternoon and their reaction was delightfully ravenous – it looked as if they wanted to bathe in it! We couldn’t have been more pleased!”
The origin of these puppies being thrown away so cruelly is unknown to us, but thankfully they were able to survive the odds against them. They are now in a foster home and will stay there until they turn 8 weeks old – at which point, we can ensure that each one finds their forever family.
So many people have expressed interest in giving these puppies their forever homes, even the man who discovered them! Currently, they are being lovingly fostered and do not need to worry about ever having to face the elements again. Consequently, they will soon be ready for adoption into a loving family of their own – making it possible for another happy ending!
