It’s devastating when pets are left behind, yet, understandably, certain life circumstances may lead individuals to part ways with their furry companions. Taking care of a pet can be taxing on the wallet and some people might feel they would not be able to provide ample love and resources for them any longer.
One heartrending note attached to a dog has brought forth an effort by a rescue organization that is aiming to lend assistance to both the canine and its owners.
On Tuesday, a heartwarming post surfaced from the McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee featuring a handwritten note found on a pup named Lilo.
The handwritten note from Lilo’s “mom” reveals that she is homeless and cannot care for her any longer, as she has two other children to provide for. Sadly, despite trying her best, no help was available.
“I am not too expensive… I love being with her and she loves me,” the note reads. “I’m a wonderful dog who just wants to be loved on – Please don’t mistreat me.”

A kindhearted stranger spotted Lilo and brought her to the McKamey Animal Center, where she was found unharmed.
Even though it’s never an ideal choice to give up a dog, we can’t help but feel compassion for Lilo’s former owner. It appears like she truly loved her pet and only made this heartbreaking decision due to dire circumstances.
In response to the heart-wrenching plea from Lilo’s Mom, the McKamey Animal Center wrote a compassionate “Note to Lilo’s Mom.”
Our hearts go out to you for having to make the agonizing decision of leaving your beloved pet behind. We are well aware that taking care of an animal can be daunting during these trying times, and we understand what a difficult choice this must have been for you. Please know that we sympathize with your situation and wish her all the best.
With a compassionate spirit, they asked the woman to make herself known to bring Lilo back home.
We are willing to do all that we can to aid you in taking care of Lilo. She truly longs for your presence and nothing would make us happier than reuniting her with the family she adores. Regardless, know that our empathy is unconditional, non-judgmental, and unfailing in assisting whenever necessary.

While expressing their deep displeasure at such an act, the organization urged people in similar financial straits as Lilo’s mom to take advantage of their budget-friendly pet ownership programs. This type of abandonment is not only wrong but also illegal; they strongly encouraged those in need to seek out more suitable options.
In their Facebook post, MAC expressed that although they understand why Lilo’s mom took the actions she did, it would have been preferred if she had approached them initially for aid and resources. As mentioned in the same post, they provide a community pet food pantry along with vaccines at reduced prices or no cost whatsoever as well as microchips and spay/neuter services.
By promoting a pet-friendly environment, we strive to bring Chattanooga together as a unified community, where all individuals and families can equally enjoy the companionship of beloved animals.
In this heartbreaking situation, the McKamey Animal Center has taken an admirable approach by providing Lilo’s family with hope and support to reunite them both. It is a noble decision that will help bring solace to those involved during these difficult times.
We hope Lilo’s mom can get in touch and reclaim Lilo — but if not, we hope that this poor dog finds another home soon.
