Meet Basil, a little pup born and lived on the streets until a caring volunteer crossed his path and saved him. Recognizing he was finally safe, Basil nestled into the lap of his savior.
Life as a stray dog is far from easy, particularly for a young pup left all alone in the world like Basil. From a tender age, he had to brave the harsh realities of street life alone.
However, one day, a volunteer noticed his scared and sad eyes and decided to take him under her wing. When Basil realized he was finally being rescued, he lay on his savior’s lap, aware that he was safe.
The volunteer and founder of Thai Street Paws Rescue, Tamara Johnston, was busy with one of her many missions to help stray dogs in distress when she stumbled upon the four-legged critter in desperate need of help.
Tamara had been wandering the streets of Songkhla, Thailand, that day. After aiding strays in the area, she stopped at a store to buy a drink. It was then that someone caught her attention.
A two-month-old pup was roaming the streets alone. The little dog had a bloated stomach, contrasting his skinny body. He was infested with parasites, but most strikingly, he wore a disoriented and frightened look.
Seeing the lonely pup and worried about his condition, Tamara sought information from residents. She learned that the dog was all alone – his mother was not with him, and his sister had been hit by a car recently.
Without an owner, a home, or someone to care for him, the pup wandered around houses looking for food, likely not always finding enough to satiate his hunger.
Upon learning about the pup’s predicament, Tamara knew she couldn’t leave such a tiny creature to fend for himself. She took him in, loaded him into her car, and headed straight to a vet for a check-up.
Basil, as Tamara named him, seemed to understand her good intentions right from the start. He showed no resistance to following her. Once in the car, Basil spent the entire journey lying on Tamara’s lap, his eyes now calmer, as if he understood he was finally safe.
The vet provided Basil with all the necessary care to remove fleas and ticks and improve his health. Basil stayed at the veterinary center for several days until he fully recovered. He was then vaccinated and neutered.
Ever since entirely relying on Tamara, the puppy appeared calm. Fido felt relieved by the woman’s presence: “It was as if he knew someone would come to his aid. He didn’t budge, nestled in my arms, and drifted off to sleep. He knew he was safe.”
The founder of Thai Street Paws Rescue remained dedicated to caring for Basil until the little dog found his perfect forever family.
Despite facing challenging times, this little furry friend was able to experience a whole new world, thanks to the help of a caring individual. Most importantly, Tamara transformed his sad and lost eyes, granting him the protection and carefree life he had always longed for.
