Cuddly Dog with a perpetual frown awaits his forever home after 400 days of waiting at the shelter

Meet Siri, the 3-year-old shelter pup who has been patiently waiting for a loving home for over 400 days – her frown is a testament to her long wait. But don’t let that fool you; This pout has superpowers!

From the moment she joined the Wake County SPCA in December 2021, Ciri’s frown was still there but her capacity for love had grown exponentially. Wake County marketing communications specialist Samantha Ranlett expressed her admiration for the dodo when she said, “It’s the sweetest thing.”

After her family abandoned her, Siri was transferred to the SPCA from a partner shelter in North Carolina. Ranlett states that the dog has been living outside her whole life, and unfortunately, she gave up when she started fighting with a canine companion over food.

Siri’s family brought her to the small shelter, hoping to find her a new home, since she could no longer live with the other dog. The staff at the shelter immediately fell in love with her but didn’t have the space or resources to keep her for very long.

That was when the SPCA got involved in Wake County. According to Ranlet, “We pull pets out of our partners’ shelters to give them more time to find a home. In Siri’s case, that ended up being very important. She needed that extra time.”

When Siri arrived at the SPCA, her new caregivers quickly set out to find her a loving home. Sadly, more than 13 months and 11 months later expressing their interests, none of the potential adopters have finally been successful. According to Ranlett, “It was more difficult than expected.”

Despite her family waiting forever, Ciri’s hesitation around people may prevent them from finding her. Ranlit thinks this is the case.

Ranlett explained, “It seems that after her unfortunate experience with other dogs, she became afraid of them and no longer wanted to be friends. We tried to introduce her to some cute canines, but despite our efforts, she kept barking and growling in fear.”

The SPCA of Wake County wants nothing but the best for Siri, so they are searching for a family who can fulfill all her needs. Ranlet explains: “At this time we’re seeking somebody to give her the home she deserves – one that doesn’t have another dog and is comfortable with caring for an animal who prefers not being around other dogs.” Give Siri what she desires; become part of her new forever home today!

As Siri awaits the perfect family for her, she takes great pleasure in getting to know everyone at the SPCA. And they are just as satisfied with every moment spent bonding with her!

According to Ranlet, she is a laidback dog who loves nothing more than snuggles, playing with her toys, and indulging in snacks. She truly appreciates the simple pleasures of life!

Her sad expression tugs on the heartstrings of those who care for her more and more as each day passes. “It’s almost impossible to resist her entreaties,” Ranlet said, “with such big pouty eyes and all that frowning! Her sadness has magical powers.”

After 13 months at the shelter, Siri was sent to a foster home and developed an immediate bond with her new dad. Although this wasn’t meant to be permanent, it’s clear that she found lasting love in her temporary family!

Ranlet beamed, “We were blessed to encounter the part of her that only shows itself when she is content and secured in her home. A side of her we wouldn’t have otherwise seen.”

Despite the brief time they shared, Siri’s immediate bond with her foster dad demonstrated to her friends at the SPCA that she has a lot of love and affection in store for someone special. She is eager to share it!

Ranlet and her team of workers at the shelter are crossing their fingers that Siri finds a perfect forever home soon, yet they’re ensuring she receives all the hugs, kisses, and snuggles in the interim.

“Siri has complete control over us,” Ranlet said. “We adore her so much.”
