The distress of a missing dog can be unfathomable; you spend countless hours scouring the area, hoping to reunite with your furry companion.
When your pet has been absent for a while and the prospect of reuniting seems to be diminishing, it can feel like all hope is lost. However, miracles do happen – and you just might find yourself joyfully reunited with your beloved companion!
After a staggering 200 days apart, one man and his beloved pup were reunited in an astonishingly touching reunion that neither had anticipated.
In April, Washington County Animal Shelter rescued a forlorn pit bull mix who had been found in someone’s house and named him “Bones.” With care and love from the shelter staff, Bones received a second chance at life.
Tammy Davis, the shelter’s executive director, described him to The Dodo as a “happy-go-lucky” pup who was initially bashful but quickly warmed up and showered people with love. He may have been uncomfortable around other dogs when he first joined the shelter staff yet it didn’t stop him from showering his human companions with affection every chance he got.
Although the pup was an amicable pooch, it proved difficult for the staff to find him a forever home due in large part to COVID-19’s reduction of visitors.
With a video of Bones playing fetch, they hoped to engage prospective adopters. Unexpectedly, and nearly miraculously, the dog’s real owner commented on the post! This was a wonderful surprise that enabled them to return Bones home.
Pat Livesay was thrilled when he saw the short video and commented with joy, “That’s my boy! His name is Blue. It’s been almost three months since I last laid eyes on him.” The shelter verified that it truly was his beloved pet, and the reunion between them both could not come sooner.
After his beloved pup vanished, the owner relocated from Tennessee to Texas for work – a 1,200-mile journey across state lines he hoped would lead him back to Blue.
It was all worth it when they finally reunited – the emotional reunion brought tears of joy to everyone’s eyes. Davis recalls, “It was evident that Blue had an unbreakable bond with his original owner. He appeared frozen in disbelief for a brief moment and then ran up to him showering him with kisses! The man couldn’t help but shed tears of relief and happiness.”
After an incredible and seemingly improbable reunion, Blue is now reunited with his loving owner in Texas. “We wish that all animals could experience a happy ending like this,” expressed Davis to The Dodo. “It makes every ounce of our hard work completely worth it when we get to witness heartening moments such as these.”
It was an incredible experience! This serves to remind us that we should always maintain a sense of optimism because wonderful things can occur when least expected.
