The Odessa Police Department in Texas found itself thrown into chaos when an adorable four-legged friend strolled through the doors! That’s right – a dog had casually decided to drop by and say hello. The officers were delighted as he was incredibly friendly, but at the same time, they knew that this pup must have been lost. Thus, their mission began to reunite him with his loving family!

Sergeant Rusty Martin proudly shared with The Dodo, “It was so exciting to have him in the building! We tossed a tennis ball around in the lobby and everyone showered him with love.”

The police officers were determined to ensure that the dog’s welfare was their utmost priority, so they began looking for its family. To their surprise, when they found the dog’s collar, it had no ID tag – presumably lost somewhere along the way. Having nothing else to go on, animal control needed to be contacted to extend their search via microchip scanning technology – however, this would take time before help could arrive. Meanwhile, at the station, many things happened while awaiting further aid…

Much to everyone’s surprise, the dog unexpectedly decided to take matters into his paws and went off in pursuit of home. Without waiting for animal control, he simply sauntered away.

The Support Our Permian Basin Police Officers Facebook page excitedly shared the story of a random visitor, who they named Chico. He strolled into their police station one night and wanted to be part of the team – perhaps he was trying to replace Lassie! The officers lavished him with love until it seemed like he decided his mission had been accomplished and left on his own accord.

After an extensive search for him, everyone breathed a sigh of relief when it became clear that he’d made his way back home safely. All are welcome at the station any time again in the future…, especially Chico!

Martin continued, “He came and went faster than a blink of an eye. The owner replied the following day, saying it was his pup who had made its way back home – he lived only one mile away from our station! I must admit that I was astonished by this.”

Martin declared, “It appears as though he is made for this job.”

Leigh Aileen expressed her admiration for the little one, exclaiming “OMG, he’s so sweet! I’m absolutely in love with his darling face even though I don’t know him!” The post quickly gained attention as people responded to Leigh’s comment.

Juliana Gregory added, “The pup was just curious if there were any open positions for a K9 team; when he saw that none existed, he decided to be on his way. I want to thank you all for your services and let you know that I have got your backs as much as you have mine!”

According to Ginger Branham Coleman, “This news story about the extraordinarily intelligent and beautiful dog is heartwarming! Animals are truly our best friends; my fur babies mean the world to me!”

When Celia Nutt saw the picture, she couldn’t help but comment “OMG! How cute is this? I can just imagine how much the officers enjoyed seeing it. This handsome applicant has won me over – I’ll hire him!”
