Every couple wonders: how will our new baby get along with the family dog? Sadly, this fear leads some to consider giving up their furry friends. But it’s certainly reasonable for you to want your infant and pup to peacefully coexist in a safe environment.
Most pets are gentle with infants, and can even become their first loyal companions. Whether it’s the biggest or tiniest of dogs, they often show an incredible level of sensitivity and affection towards children. For instance, one pup offered a very special present to his new little human.
Bonnie Michalek and her husband, both from California, view their pet bullmastiff Brutus with the same tenderness they would a family member—Bonnie even jokingly refers to him as their “first baby.”
As Bonnie was expecting her first child, Brutus sensed it before anyone else. The pooch suddenly became very protective of his beloved owner in the initial days of her pregnancy; an amusing memory still cherished by Bonnie today.
She confessed to The Dodo that Brutus had a premonition of her pregnancy long before she even suspected it herself.
Bonnie was sure that Brutus would be delighted with the new family member, confirming her suspicions when she exclaimed, “He’s always had such a fondness for children. Whenever he hears them outside laughing and playing, he instantly perks up!”
Bringing little Kayden home to meet her new companion, Brutus, was an incredibly heartwarming experience. Affectionately licking the newborn’s face in greeting, it was as if he already knew this baby would be special and beloved.
Ever since the day they met, Brutus and Kayden have been close companions. The dog has even gone as far as to share his most prized possession with the small child – an unforgettable sign of friendship between pup and baby!
While Brutus is like many other dogs who love to play with their favorite toys, his choice of toy stands out – a bright yellow plush ball. It’s the one and only that he won’t rip apart within minutes; as Bonnie commented when she spoke to The Dodo: “It’s remarkable how long it takes him!”.
But he’s willing to part with it if it will make his favorite little human feel better.
“Every time Kayden cries, Brutus finds his fluff ball and tries to bring it to [him],” Bonnie wrote on Instagram. “So cute.”
It’s genuinely evident that the undying love between this pup and his companion will last a lifetime. That is true devotion!
