Boy Discovers Rescue Cat with Mismatched Eyes and Cleft Lip, Just Like Himself

An extraordinary bond was formed between an odd-eyed cat and a young boy named Madden. Both were born with unique features – different-colored eyes and cleft lips.

Seven-year-old Madden from Oklahoma met the cat, taken in by a local rescue group in Minnesota, and instantly fell in love.

Madden has a rare condition called complete Heterochromia iridium, which results in eyes of completely different colors.

When Madden’s mother, Christina Humphreys, heard about a cat named Valentine with the same birth differences as her son, she knew this kitty was meant for Madden. The gentle 2-year-old cat had been rescued by Mending Spirits Animal Rescue in Mankato, Minnesota. “He’s as beautiful inside as he is out. He has a quiet little meow that sounds adorable, and he’ll kindly mew at you when he wants your attention,” the rescue said.

The family embarked on a journey from Oklahoma to Minnesota to welcome their new furry friend. Generous friends and strangers helped make the road trip possible. “We’re so thankful,” Christina shared on Facebook.

Upon meeting, Madden and his feline companion connected immediately, and the kitty snuggled up to him. The boy renamed the cat, Moon.

“These handsome boys were both born with cleft lips and complete heterochromia iridium (different colored eyes), and we knew they were destined to be best friends. It’s funny how a pet can make you feel less alone,” Christina said.

Since Moon moved in, Madden has been showering his feline friend with love and affection. “We’re eager for him to feel adjusted so he’ll come out and play more. He’s super affectionate and lovable,” Christina said.

Madden shared a heartfelt message in a video, “Don’t be mean to others who are different. We’ve already been through a lot of hard stuff. Show everybody kindness… If someone’s being mean to you, be nice to them. Because the most unlovable people need love the most.”

Madden has given Moon a loving home, and in return, the kitty adores his forever human. “He’ll come right up and snuggle in his lap.”
